The rollover of Event Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters 2020 funding has been confirmed for 2021. Buoyed up by this news, planning for RowAround Scotland 2021, the real deal, is underway. Necessarily agile, planning scenarios allow either for an unbroken circumnavigation, local/regional lockdowns or lastly, individual clubs taking photographs and samples. A major focus of all three tiers of planning will be the microplastics trawling, which can be undertaken by clubs if they are permitted to row locally under the government regulations in force at the time. Hybrid, collaborative events may be possible, on a much smaller scale but local sensitivities will be paramount. We don’t want to be perceived to be passing the virus along with the baton.
RowAround is planning for the worst and hoping for the best. The Virtual RowAround is online to keep us inspired over the winter and new clubs and skiffs will join us in 2021. We also have all the ‘assets’ purchased for this past year, including some merchandise, and are raring to go – with extra funding from NatureScot, through Plunge In! The Coasts and Waters Community Fund, to help.
The indicative outline of dates will remain much the same for all sections in 2021. Clubs can always complete their sections at a different time if holed up due to the virus or by the weather.
